These orders are used to purchase stock that for some reason or other is running short. It orders only enough stock to cover the expected sales between the delivery time of the most preferred supplier and the next Regular purchase order delivery (yet to be placed). The stock required for the period of a Catch Up is calculated from the Sales requirement or customer order requirement for the period.
The sales requirement for the period is calculated using the working average sales multiplied by the period to be spanned, not the optimum months of stock.
The customer order requirement is calculated as the total customer orders due for the period but not covered by stock on hand or purchases due prior to the period. Note that if the option to ignore later deliveries is used then deliveries arriving between this regular delivery and the next may also be purchased on the catch up order resulting in a possible overstock situation.
