Statement Levels
Acumen can produce a number of statements from its ledgers. Statements form a pyramid structure whereby a child statement is represented by an entry in the parent statement. Whenever a posting is made to a child account the balance represented by the parent account is adjusted.

By default all accounts are placed as members of the balance sheet statement which is always the top of the pyramid (ie. can have no parent). This ensures that the balance sheet must always have a zero overall balance.
To place an account upon a lower statement level you must first nominate the parent account code at the next higher level. In the diagram above it would be necessary to define the 'Profit and Loss' account as a balance sheet item that is a parent of the Profit and Loss statement level. You can then enter accounts to the profit and loss statement by declaring the Profit account as their parent (ie. the system deduces the statement level for the children from the parent). Likewise to enter Trading statement accounts it is necessary to define the 'Profit on Trading' account as a parent to the Trading statement level.
