Journals

All postings to ledgers are done via a journal. Acumen provides the following types of journals:

• General journals

• Automatic reversing journals

• Creditors Journals

• Debtors Journals

• Cashbook Journals

A journal is always for a single period but may contain virtually as many postings for that period as you desire (up to around 30,000 lines). Each journal can be thought of as a batch. You can identify the journal with a description (typically the reason for the journal) that can be used to locate the journal at a later time. You may also enter notes against the journal that detail any special circumstances about that journal.

The Creditors, Debtors and Cashbook journals are examples of journals that can be automatically built from the postings collected in the respective systems. See the 'Load Postings' General Ledger facility for more details.
