General Files

The General files are used as a substitute for the master information stored at the main site of the Acumen installation. These files are accessed to read information only. All changes to such files as customers, products, prices, security, etc are made at the main site on the master files. Each distributed work station will be unaware of such changes until they receive their next download.

Because customer credit checking and product pricing are both done from this local copy of the master files it is important to download a fresh copy of these files on a regular basis. The frequency of this download depends on the frequency of changes to prices, products, customers, etc and the accuracy you wish to maintain on customer credit checking. New and released credit stops and increases in a customers balance (relative to their credit limit) are only updated by a download (ie. sales made at a workstation do not change the outstanding balance stored in the General files).
