Long Descriptions

The product description is limited to fifty characters for convenience in screen and report display and to allow for reasonable response time when searching for products by description. This does not mean that a product can only be described in fifty or less characters when placed upon a document. The product description can be extended for both Sales documents and Purchase documents, either separately or together.

To create a long description for a product the product notes field is used. Normally text entered into the notes field appears only on the product screen and is used for internal purposes by your staff. It may for instance record details about an upcoming sale of this item or some advertising campaign. The notes field can also be used to store an extended description of the product. To extend the sales description of a product the user need only enter a tilde [~] character into the notes field. All text after the tilde (until another tilde a hat or the end of the text) will be placed on sales documents as comments directly after the product description. To extend purchase document descriptions for a product enter a hat [^] character in the same manner. To use the same extended description in both sales and purchases enter the tilde and hat characters together [~^].
